The root of the question goes back to Vatican II and the nature of the post-Vatican II Church. The essential question is: Is the Novus Ordo Church Catholic?
The answer to this question can only either be “yes” or “no” – something can’t be half-Catholic. But before we answer the question, we must determine what the consequences for each answer would be.
- If the N. O. Church is Catholic, then there is no reason to resist it; in fact, by resisting the true Catholic Church, one would become schismatic. The Church has always taught that full submission to the Roman Pontiff and the magisterium (teaching body) of the Church is necessary.
“…this Chair of Peter. This chair is the center of Catholic truth and unity, that is, the head, mother, and teacher of all the Churches to which all honour and obedience must be offered. Every church must agree with it because of its greater preeminence — that is, those people who are in all respects faithful.” (Pope Pius IX, Inter Multiplices)
- If the N. O. Church is not Catholic, then the only option is to denounce it completely, sever all ties with it and look upon it as a heretical Church; for there is only one true Church of Christ.
So. Let’s start answering the question: Is the post-conciliar church Catholic?
One way to go about answering the question would be to examine the Vatican II church in the light of the four marks; that is, one, holy, catholic and apostolic.
Let’s start by defining what each of these actually mean.
Q. 549. How is the Church One?
A. The Church is One because all its members agree in one faith, are all in one communion, and are all under one head.
On the one hand, you’ve got more conservative members of the post-conciliar church contradicting their “pope” and reminding everyone that such a sacrilegious practice is not permitted by Church teaching. For example, Cardinal Müller.
Therefore, we can freely conclude that the Novus Ordo counterfeit church does not have unity of faith. On the other hand, the Catholic Church was, is and always will be one. As Leo XII says in his encyclical, Satis Cognitum:
“It is so evident from the clear and frequent testimonies of Holy Writ that the true Church of Jesus Christ is one, that no Christian can dare to deny it.”
Q. 563. How is the Church Holy?
A. The Church is Holy because its founder, Jesus Christ, is holy; because it teaches a holy doctrine; invites all to a holy life; and because of the eminent holiness of so many thousands of its children.
Sounds like the Vatican II church? Well. with vocations falling, sex abuse scandals among the clergy and increasing divorce rates, it’s obvious that the Novus Ordo is not making people holy and leading them to God.
So that one’s gone.
Q. 564. How is the Church Catholic or universal?
A. The Church is Catholic or universal because it subsists in all ages, teaches all nations, and maintains all truth.
This one’s easy – the Novus Ordo religion is only 50-odd years old. so there’s no way it could have “subsisted in all ages”!
Q. 567. How is the Church Apostolic?
A. The Church is Apostolic because it was founded by Christ on His Apostles, and is governed by their lawful successors, and because it has never ceased, and never will cease, to teach their doctrine.
As was proved already and as the most benevolent Francis continues to demonstrate, the Vatican II church teaching on matters such as salvation, ecumenism, the divinity of Our Lord, the nature of the Church…basically, pretty much everything, has been flipped upside down and is in direct contradiction to what the Apostles taught.
Have a look at an extract of Bishop Sanborn’s comparison of pre- and post-Vatican II teaching (entire document here):
We really cannot say that this new church is apostolic.
The Novus Ordo Church is not the Catholic Church. It is a counterfeit church set up by Satan to lead souls to hell.
